Anchorage Digital CEO Nathan McCauley told The Block on Aug. 21 that AI agents will develop into economic actors capable of earning and spending money directly, requiring bank accounts rather than simple payment tools. He said the agents will need control and management systems to transact across on-chain networks, cards and traditional financial rails. Speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium 2026, McCauley cited The Jetsons and Jarvis from Iron Man as models of agents acting as independent economic actors. Anchorage Digital launched its Agentic Banking platform in May, supplying institutions with trust, governance and settlement infrastructure to fund and control AI agents on their behalf. McCauley noted that agents need accounts to receive, hold and spend funds in a rail-agnostic manner, and highlighted the platform's role in enabling the next phase of agent-driven commerce.
