Samsung SDI will sell 13.09 million shares in affiliate Samsung Display to the display maker for approximately 4.45 trillion won, or $3.21 billion, at 340,000 won per share. Samsung Display will repurchase the shares as treasury stock, with the transaction scheduled to close on August 27. Samsung SDI’s stake will fall to 26.77 million shares, or 10.22%, from about 15.2%, while the final share count and value may be adjusted during the buyback process. The battery maker said the sale will secure resources for investments in future growth engines as it expands electric-vehicle battery production, including plants in the United States, while demand growth moderates and competition from LG Energy Solution and CATL intensifies.
