MANTRA Chain has resumed block production after deploying version 8.4.0 to patch a Cosmos-EVM vulnerability that left its real-world asset-focused Layer 1 unable to process transactions for about 30 hours. The mainnet restarted at approximately 5:30 a.m. UTC on Aug. 22 following a coordinated validator upgrade, with no blockchain rollback or state alteration and no change to user balances. The incident began late on Aug. 20 when an attacker exploited a flaw in an upstream dependency used by the EVM module; developers halted the chain at block 17,449,398, freezing transfers, staking, bridges, and IBC relays while two MANTRA-managed wallets were affected and user, exchange, and partner funds were not. The MANTRA token fell from about $0.005060 to a record low of $0.004126 near the halt, with trading volume jumping nearly 600%. A complete post-incident analysis is expected in the coming days; neither MANTRA nor Cosmos Labs has confirmed a link to the earlier ICS20 precompile flaw disclosed in ASA-2026-002.
