DeepSeek has announced the experimental deepseek-v4-flash-vision-exp model, an extension of its V4 Flash platform that adds image processing capabilities. Users can upload images and screenshots to request analysis or tasks based on visual content. The system retains full text capabilities for reasoning, agentic tasks and general knowledge. In evaluations of multimodal agentic performance using visual inputs, it performs similarly to Anthropic’s Opus 4.8. The launch comes as Anthropic prepares to go public, potentially second only to SpaceX’s record IPO that raised $86.2 billion including overallotment. Reports indicate Anthropic may file as early as this month, with Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan preparing the offering. The move adds to intensifying competition among leading AI developers.
