Brazil’s Ibovespa jumped 1.8% to close at 171,032 on Friday, led by a broad rally in financial stocks as investors awaited a new Datafolha poll on the country’s October presidential election. A BTG/Nexus poll released Monday showed President Lula and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro in a technical tie in a potential runoff. Markets view Flávio as more fiscally restrictive amid elevated domestic yields and weak business activity, while expectations of a tighter race and broad-based weakness in the US dollar pushed bond yields lower. Itaú rose 2.9%, Bradesco gained 3.1%, Itaúsa added 2.5% and B3 jumped 5.2%. Utilities, miners and steelmakers also advanced, while Embraer and Petrobras were among the few laggards.
