A unanimous Texas Third Court of Appeals ruling reduced Alex Jones’ roughly $50 million Sandy Hook judgment so that the Infowars founder can be forced to pay only about $6 million, citing state limits on lawsuit damages. The court left intact more than $4.1 million in compensatory damages for parents Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis and cut more than $45 million in punitive damages to $1.5 million under Texas’ $750,000-per-plaintiff cap. The decision does not disturb Jones’ separate $1.25 billion Connecticut liability, does not erase the defamation finding, and comes as families say they have yet to collect and bankruptcy and liquidation fights over Free Speech Systems and Infowars continue.
