MP Materials Corp. shares climbed 9.3% to $60.16 Friday, outperforming a broader market rally as critical minerals stocks gained following the U.S. Department of Energy's selection of seven projects to expand critical mineral processing, battery manufacturing and recycling capacity. The funding round aligns with President Donald Trump's "Unleashing American Energy" executive order and comes as Washington seeks to strengthen domestic critical mineral supply chains. MP Materials operates Mountain Pass, the only rare earth mining and processing site of scale in North America. The stock moved above its 20-day, 50-day, 100-day and 200-day simple moving averages, while improving MACD momentum suggested stronger buying pressure. However, its longer-term trend remains in recovery after a July death cross, when the 50-day average fell below the 200-day average. Analysts have a Buy consensus rating and an average price forecast of $71.79, although JPMorgan, Needham and Barclays recently reduced their individual forecasts. Investors may watch whether MP can hold the breakout near resistance at $61 and build support around $53.50.
