SpaceX is recruiting a natural gas trader to build and lead a team focused on physical and financial gas trading, according to job postings. The role may be based in Cape Canaveral, Florida, or Starbase, Texas, with remote work excluded, and would support the company’s growing fuel and electricity needs as it expands Starship launches, semiconductor manufacturing and power-generation projects. Starship uses super-chilled methane, the primary ingredient in natural gas, combined with liquid oxygen, and consumes roughly 630,000 gallons per launch. SpaceX plans to ease tanker-truck bottlenecks through Starpipe, an eight-mile pipeline announced June 25, 2026, designed to carry natural gas from the Brownsville area to Starbase, Texas, with service targeted for January 2027. The company also plans to build gas-fired power plants for a massive semiconductor manufacturing facility it is developing in Texas with Tesla Inc., while assessing its own pipelines and possible natural-gas drilling. An internal trading operation would allow SpaceX to manage supply, price exposure and regulatory obligations as its energy requirements grow.
