South Korea's average retail gasoline price fell 1.7 won from the previous week to 1,862.5 won per liter in the third week of August, marking a 14th consecutive weekly decline, according to Opinet, the oil price information system operated by the Korea National Oil Corporation. Seoul recorded the highest gasoline price at 1,908.9 won per liter, while Daegu was the cheapest at 1,835.6 won. GS Caltex stations had the highest brand-level average at 1,865.6 won, and discount stations were lowest at 1,853.5 won. Average diesel prices fell 1.4 won to 1,845.7 won per liter. International prices moved higher as U.S.-Iran talks stalled, pressure on Iran intensified and tensions between the United Arab Emirates and Iran increased, although Saudi Arabia provided alternative supply. Dubai crude rose $3.2 to $91.8 per barrel, while international gasoline and auto-diesel prices increased to $113.8 and $163.7, respectively. Since global price changes typically reach domestic retail markets after two to three weeks, the increase could lift South Korean fuel prices. The government left its ninth oil price cap unchanged from the eighth on Aug. 21, setting limits of 1,784 won per liter for gasoline, 1,773 won for diesel and 1,380 won for kerosene.
