Solana has reduced its slot time from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds, the first reduction since the network’s inception, according to Solana Foundation vice president of technology Jacob Creech. The change is the opening step in a broader effort to drive the network’s original 400-millisecond slot target down to 200 milliseconds. According to the Solana slot time explorer, average slot times sat at roughly 360 milliseconds at press time. The reduction is enabled by SIMD-0525, approved on May 14, and is the first of four 50-millisecond stages targeted for Agave v4.2, a validator client developed by Anza. The phased approach aims to improve latency and accelerate confirmations for payments and high-frequency applications.
