Ormat Technologies, the world’s largest geothermal operator, is expanding into enhanced geothermal systems, or EGS, to supply firm power for artificial-intelligence data centers. The company has approximately 1,835 megawatts of capacity across geothermal, solar and storage resources, and has signed agreements including a Power Purchase Agreement with NV Energy for up to 150 megawatts serving Google data centers in Nevada from 2028 to 2030, plus a 20-year agreement to supply about 13 megawatts from its Salt Wells plant to Switch. Ormat is developing EGS pilots with SLB at Desert Peak and Sage Geosystems, with drilling permits for the Desert Peak project targeting the fourth quarter of 2026. It has also secured more than 10,642 acres in New Mexico and introduced the modular 100-megawatt Ormega100 binary unit for conventional geothermal and EGS applications. The company raised its 2026 revenue guidance to $1.15 billion-$1.20 billion and is targeting a 2.6-gigawatt to 2.8-gigawatt generating portfolio by 2028. The central test is whether EGS can produce dependable power at costs competitive with other firm generation and scale beyond the pilot stage.
