Bitcoin rose more than 20% during the week to Aug. 24, briefly reaching $79,500 and trading around $77,100 in early Asian hours on Aug. 24. Reports described the weekly gain as more than 21% or 23%, reflecting different measurement times. The rally came despite an anonymous whale selling 7,700 BTC worth about $576.6 million from Aug. 19 to 22, following the accumulation of 43,000 BTC by large holders over the preceding 60 days; another whale sold 7,513 BTC worth about $487 million during the three weeks ending Aug. 9. Major cryptocurrencies also advanced, led by XRP's weekly gain of more than 46%, while Ether gained 28%, Dogecoin 30%, Solana 24% and BNB 15%. Hyperliquid revenue nearly tripled to $16.93 million for the week ended Aug. 23, and its token rose roughly 35%-37%. Investors were also watching Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's first Jackson Hole speech for signals on interest rates, while Polymarket odds on Bitcoin breaking $78,000 on Aug. 24 rose to 43.5%.
