BNB Smart Chain is set to activate the Pasteur hardfork at 02:30 UTC on August 25, 2026, with less than a day remaining until mainnet. The upgrade does not create a new coin, require a snapshot or migration, change wallet addresses, or alter users' balances. Grouped under BEP-673, its three proposals—BEP-682, BEP-695 and BEP-675—strengthen cross-chain bridge verification against duplicate validator entries, tighten validator key rotation and governance controls, and raise usable block capacity without changing the 450-millisecond block time. On QANet, BEP-675 cut validator processing on the critical path from 125 milliseconds to 15 milliseconds, lifted average block gas usage from 46.35 million to 84.15 million of the 100 million limit, and raised throughput from 1,237 to 2,324 transactions per second; those figures remain controlled test results, not a mainnet guarantee. All BSC mainnet nodes must run client version 1.7.7 before activation and remove [Eth] EnableBAL from config.toml, or the updated client will fail to start; removing [TxPool] OverflowPoolSlots is also recommended. Binance plans to suspend deposits and withdrawals for BEP20 tokens around 02:25 UTC, while trading is expected to continue. Pasteur follows the Fermi and Osaka/Mendel upgrades and forms part of BNB Chain's H2 2026 capacity roadmap.
