Polygon is advancing a community-backed proposal to overhaul staking and token economics, according to co-founder Sandeep Nailwal. The network’s revenue has grown tenfold this year, while Polygon has reached 5,000 TPS and shortened block times by 25%, with work continuing toward sub-one-second block times. The proposal would add L1-like native staking on Polygon PoS, operating alongside Ethereum staking. Priority fees generated by transactions would go to POL stakers, with PIP-85 already approved. Staking returns are expected to nearly double, with new rewards coming mainly from actual network fees rather than token inflation. POL stakers could also receive benefits such as discounted gas fees, while the plan would support greater use of liquid-staking token sPOL in DeFi. Polygon Labs will develop the code and submit it to the community forum for approval.
