Hyundai Motor and its labor union reached a tentative wage agreement Tuesday during their 17th negotiation round at the automaker’s Ulsan plant, potentially ending a labor dispute that disrupted production. Management and union representatives began talks Monday and continued overnight, agreeing to raise monthly base pay by 100,000 won ($72.33). The deal followed an eight-hour, full-day walkout on Friday involving about 38,000 union members, which completely halted Hyundai’s domestic production lines and marked the union’s first full-scale strike in a decade. The parties had disputed a 50% bonus increase, reinstatement of dismissed union members and an extension of the retirement age. The agreement’s treatment of those additional issues was not specified.
