Bitcoin rose more than 20% in a week, its strongest weekly advance since March 2024, breaking above $80,000 for the first time since May 4 and later exceeding $81,000. CoinNess market monitoring recorded $81,042.37 on Binance USDT, while HTX separately recorded $81,012 and a 4.51% 24-hour gain on Aug. 25. Crypto markets continued higher that day, with the Layer 2 sector rising 3.02% over 24 hours, Polygon’s POL gaining 8.50%, Stacks rising 4.76% and Mantle advancing 2.82%. Bitcoin gained 3.22% and Ethereum rose 2.38%, again moving above $2,500 intraday. Analysts attributed the broader rally to short covering, spot demand, approximately $1.92 billion in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF inflows from Aug. 17-21, lower Treasury yields, a weaker dollar, larger long-term Treasury buybacks and reduced futures leverage. The move also followed expectations that Bessent may deploy nearly $1 trillion from the Treasury General Account to buy bonds and the United States expanding economic sanctions on Iran. American Bitcoin Corp. rose 6.43% to $8.44 on Aug. 24, while total cryptocurrency market capitalization reached $2.74 trillion.
