Bitcoin rose above $80,000, reaching $80,545 after gaining more than 4.2% in 24 hours and 25.1% over the week, according to a later Coinmarketcap snapshot; CoinGlass earlier reported $80,312, up 4.04%, on Aug. 25. The rally followed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s plan to expand bond buybacks, reviving the debasement trade. Zcash, XRP, Solana and Aave were among the strongest large-cap performers, although analysts described the move as selective rather than a confirmed altseason. Coinmarketcap data showed total crypto market value up 3.45% to $2.71 trillion, while Ethereum rose about 2.3% to above $2,500. CoinGlass reported Bitcoin contract turnover of about $112.008 billion and spot turnover of about $9.001 billion; Ethereum contract turnover was about $69.204 billion and spot turnover about $4.589 billion. Bitcoin dominance remained near 59.69% and the Altcoin Season Index around 48 to 49, below the 75 confirmation threshold, as markets watched Solana validator votes, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech and the Senate’s Sept. 15 procedural vote on the proposed CLARITY Act.
