Josh Kushner’s estimated fortune reached $16.7 billion on Aug. 23, up from $5.2 billion a year earlier, as assets at his venture firm Thrive Capital rose from $23 billion in December 2024 to more than $65 billion. The gains were driven largely by SpaceX and Cursor investments. Forbes estimates Kushner’s wealth is now nearly 17 times that of his brother Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law. Kushner and former Disney CEO Bob Iger agreed on Aug. 12 to buy the Los Angeles Lakers from Mark Walter for a record $12.5 billion, but the transaction has not closed and still requires approval from the NBA’s Board of Governors, scheduled to meet in September. After Jeanie Buss’s siblings agreed to sell their remaining stake, Kushner and Iger’s combined ownership would rise to roughly 83%. Thrive has also backed OpenAI, Databricks, Stripe, Anduril, Instagram and Spotify. Kushner said the firm’s funds have averaged 33% annual returns after fees, roughly double the S&P 500’s pace over the same period.
