Tesla Inc. will hold an exclusive Cybercab launch event in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 3, with the two-seat autonomous vehicle already in production at Giga Texas. Reuters, citing The Information, reported that initial deployment is expected to begin with employee rides before Cybercabs join Tesla’s Austin Robotaxi service days later. The vehicle has no steering wheel or pedals, but that rollout would not satisfy a Polymarket contract requiring a genuine retail sale to a member of the public for $30,000 or less by Dec. 31. Traders assign that outcome a 17% probability, down from 33% in late April, with approximately $48,500 in trading volume. Elon Musk has said customers will be able to buy the Cybercab for below $30,000, while acknowledging that his production timelines may be optimistic. Tesla’s second-quarter update omitted its earlier statement that Cybercab volume production remained on schedule for 2026, and Musk warned that the initial ramp would be "agonizingly slow." The launch is central to Tesla’s autonomy strategy, although electric vehicles still generate most of its revenue and profit.
