AI agent adoption is accelerating across consumer, workplace and developer platforms. OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work, available through the ChatGPT Plus plan for $20 per month, is designed to bring coding-agent capabilities to general white-collar workers handling complex tasks such as document processing, report generation and deep research. OpenAI’s head of product, Thibault Sottiaux, said the product had reached 20 million users and described a minimalist design focused on allowing models to handle more of the work. OpenAI’s AI coding and agent features also reached 20 million weekly active users as of August 19, 2026, equal to about 2% of its roughly 1 billion active ChatGPT users, while co-founder Greg Brockman separately put the agent user count between 10 million and 20 million. OpenRouter, a unified API gateway providing access to more than 400 large language models, saw weekly token volume rise roughly 9,000-fold to more than 90 trillion by mid-2026. Agentic workloads accounted for roughly 71% of OpenRouter usage by early August, and Chinese open-source models including DeepSeek captured more than half of usage as U.S. frontier models’ share fell from 70% to 30%.
