South Korea's top financial regulator will accelerate cryptocurrency legislation and plans to introduce the Digital Asset Framework Act this autumn, with rules expected on stablecoin issuance, virtual asset service provider licensing and bitcoin ETFs. The Financial Services Commission has prioritized the measure alongside a Financial Holding Company Governance Reform Plan after clearing real estate loan and single-stock leveraged ETF issues, targeting concrete results as early as next month. Chairman Lee Eok-won told the National Assembly the agency would speed consultations and keep the digital asset law from slipping past this year, advancing it through lawmaker-sponsored bills with confirmed equity restrictions on virtual asset exchange shareholders. The governance reform plan, delayed since March, addresses chairman renewals, CEO succession and board independence amid prolonged market uncertainty.
