President Lee Jae Myung’s approval rating fell 2.8 percentage points to 40.2%, marking a sixth consecutive weekly decline and a new low since he took office, according to a Realmeter poll commissioned by EKN newspaper and released Aug. 24. Disapproval rose 2.8 points to 56.9%, a 16.7-point gap outside the margin of error. Realmeter linked the decline to distrust over housing policy, including a proposal to build apartments in Yongsan Park, controversy over Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae’s written recommendation of two nominees to the president, and security concerns after South Korea-U.S. military drills were scaled back. In a separate survey, Democratic Party support fell 6 points to 41.9%, while People Power Party support rose 4.5 points to 37.6%, leaving the parties within the margin of error.
