U.S. President Donald Trump said officials had discussed accumulating more Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies but had not decided whether to proceed. He announced no purchase, funding mechanism or timetable, and his remarks did not change the existing U.S. policy framework. The Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, created by Trump’s March 6, 2025 executive order, is initially funded with Bitcoin finally forfeited through criminal or civil judgments. Treasury and Commerce may develop budget-neutral strategies to acquire additional Bitcoin without imposing costs on taxpayers, while acquiring non-Bitcoin assets for the separate U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile requires further presidential or legislative action. Trump said he could consider recommendations from SEC Chair Paul Atkins, urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act and said the United States should remain ahead of China in digital assets. No follow-up executive action or Treasury acquisition notice has been issued.
