Palantir Technologies’ Maven Smart System (MSS) has become a Pentagon program of record, strengthening the military AI platform’s institutional status as the company’s US government contracts surpassed $1 billion in fiscal year 2026. Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg signed the designation memo on March 9, 2026, directing full implementation by September 30, while the fiscal year 2027 budget request seeks $2.3 billion over five years to expand MSS. Oversight will shift to the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, or CDAO, with future contracting under the US Army. Palantir’s US government revenue rose 84% year over year to $687 million in the first quarter of 2026, prompting full-year revenue guidance of $7.65 billion to $7.66 billion. The company also holds a $10 billion, 10-year Army Enterprise Agreement secured in July 2025, while its Maven IDIQ contract, awarded at $480 million in May 2024, has grown to approximately $1.3 billion through 2029. MSS operates across all US combatant commands, has more than 20,000 users and has supported thousands of targeted strikes by applying AI to data from satellites, drones and sensor networks. Analysts at Wedbush said the designation could make government AI spending more predictable by reducing the risk that it remains experimental or is withdrawn.
