Nexen Tire has signed a direct renewable power purchase agreement (PPA) with SK Innovation E&S to supply about 4 megawatts of onshore wind and solar power to its Yangsan plant from November. The arrangement is expected to generate about 6 gigawatt-hours annually, equivalent to the yearly electricity use of 1,600 three-person households, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 2,700 tons a year. The company is also converting expiring rooftop-leased solar facilities at Changnyeong into self-generation assets, targeting more than 10MW of capacity by 2028, with solar power expected to cover about 9% of the plant's electricity consumption. Nexen Tire supplies original-equipment tires to Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Porsche and has an approved Science Based Targets initiative target to cut Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 58.8% by 2034 from 2023 levels.
