High water temperatures have killed 1.106 million farmed fish this summer in South Gyeongsang Province, including 901,000 rockfish, while 95 lines of farmed sea squirts have also died. Losses across 44 farms in Namhae, Hadong and Tongyeong have reached 1.842 billion won ($1.3 million). A high-temperature warning now covers all waters off the province after temperatures reached as high as 31.9 degrees Celsius in Sacheon Bay and Gangjin Bay. Market-ready fish account for about 10% of deaths, keeping flatfish and rockfish prices broadly stable for now, but the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said prices could change if losses spread. The government is expanding insurance and disaster-recovery support for affected farms.
