Semiconductor silicon wafer prices have begun rising for the first time in more than three years, with increases starting at 10% across 6-inch, 8-inch and 12-inch products. The move, driven by an AI-fueled recovery in chip demand, is supporting Taiwanese wafer stocks even as the broader market fluctuates. GlobalWafers, Formosa Sumco Technology and Wafer Works are negotiating higher quotes as demand and supply-chain inventory conditions improve, while capacity utilization and second-half operating performance are expected to benefit if the upcycle persists. The development also reflects a broader transformation in semiconductor materials, spanning advanced packaging and compound materials such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride.
