China’s A-share market recovered in afternoon trading on August 25 after weakening at midday, with the Shanghai Composite turning slightly higher and smaller-cap shares substantially outperforming larger companies. More than 4,200 stocks rose by the afternoon, while turnover across the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges reached 1.83 trillion yuan, down 175.6 billion yuan from the previous session. At midday, turnover was 1.15 trillion yuan, down 223.9 billion yuan, and more than 3,600 stocks had advanced, indicating rapid rotation of existing capital. Innovative drugs, CRO (contract research organization) shares, agriculture, digital currency, liquid-cooling servers, tourism, retail and other consumer stocks gained, while precious-metals, lithium-mining, semiconductor and battery shares weakened. Investors also watched earnings from BYD, PetroChina, CNOOC, Laopu Gold and Eoptolink Technology, alongside a National People’s Congress Standing Committee meeting scheduled for August 25-28 for potential policy signals.
