Solana will activate a second mainnet slot-time cut from 350 milliseconds to 300 milliseconds at the start of epoch 1024, with activation expected around August 28. Brennan Watt, CEO of Anza and author of SIMD-0525, said on August 25 that the feature gate is now pending, following the network’s first reduction from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds at epoch 1020 on August 21. The staged roadmap targets 200-millisecond slots through four gates, with per-slot compute and data limits scaled so per-second throughput is preserved while confirmation latency and leader windows shrink. At 300 milliseconds, epochs spanning 432,000 slots compress to about 36 hours from roughly 42 hours. Further cuts to 250 milliseconds and 200 milliseconds remain contingent on acceptable block skip rates after each step.
