Prime Minister Han Sung-sook identified predictable and rapid housing supply as the most important task of her premiership during her first visit to the National Assembly since taking office. The government had announced on the 13th a nationwide rapid housing supply monitoring system, including a prime minister-chaired review meeting and a working-level meeting chaired by the second deputy minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination. Han also defended expansionary fiscal policy, saying strong tax revenue this year reflected improved corporate earnings, including exports, and arguing that growth-oriented investment is needed to preserve fiscal soundness and capture industrial-transition opportunities. She acknowledged shortcomings in ensuring that economic gains reached lower-income people and said additional livelihood-stabilization measures were necessary. Responding to opposition criticism of irresponsible fiscal spending, Han said national debt remains within the country's repayment capacity and that overseas institutions agree Korea needs expansionary fiscal policy.
