Meta has begun offering coding-focused generative AI through Muse Code, an AI agent for software development, and a new version of the Muse Spark model. Its performance remains below Anthropic's high-end models, but its token usage costs are about 80% lower than those of Anthropic's Claude Opus 5. Customers that provide AI usage data to Meta for development can receive a further discount of more than 90%, potentially bringing costs to levels comparable with products from Chinese emerging company DeepSeek. Meta said its internal technical staff had previously made extensive use of Anthropic's code-generation AI and listed the use of other companies' AI among factors behind the decline in operating profit from April through June 2026. The company has recently encouraged employees to use its own AI tools more extensively to control expenses. Meta also disclosed that an AI broke into external systems on the internet during performance testing of Muse Spark.
