IceCure Medical has entered an exclusive distribution agreement with Netherlands-based Scovas Medical for its ProSense® cryoablation systems in the Netherlands, covering breast cancer and interventional oncology. The initial term is intended to support negotiations on a possible longer-term agreement. IceCure said the arrangement should expand market development, clinical education and physician access in a country with strong interventional radiology expertise and growing interest in minimally invasive cancer care. The Netherlands is also the setting for the independent, multicenter randomized THERMAC trial, which has advanced to Phase III with a focus on cryoablation (destroying tumors by freezing). Previously published data found high patient satisfaction with thermal ablation and gave ProSense® the highest complete ablation rate among the evaluated thermal ablation technologies. Investigators selected cryoablation for Phase III after reporting a 94% success rate, 0% complication rate and 100% treatment tolerance without general anesthesia. IceCure said the potential benefits for selected early-stage breast cancer patients include reduced surgical burden, improved cosmetic outcomes, quality-of-life benefits and lower healthcare costs, while cautioning that forward-looking expectations remain subject to clinical, regulatory, commercial, funding, intellectual-property and geopolitical risks.
