David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of Ruby on Rails and Omarchy, established the Omacom Foundation to support the Linux distribution and the open-source software around it. The foundation launched with $8 million from eight technology executives, including Hansson, Tobias Lütke, Patrick Collison, Michael Dell, Jack Dorsey, Matthew Prince, Brendan Iribe and Jason Fried. Existing reporting later put total funding at $10 million after Drew Houston and Peter Steinberger each contributed $1 million. Omarchy 4.0, built on Arch Linux with Hyprland and Quickshell, reorganizes the desktop around AI-agent compatibility, allowing agents to read and modify configuration files, execute commands and verify results. The foundation holds the Omarchy trademark, funds infrastructure, promotes adoption and supports dependent open-source projects; it will also become Quickshell's main sponsor under a three-year agreement. Hardware support and community development are expanding, although compatibility, input-method and software-update problems remain.
