The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, a gauge of shipping rates for vessels carrying dry bulk commodities, rose for a fourth consecutive session on Tuesday, gaining about 1.5% to 2,926 points, its highest level since Aug. 12. The capesize index, covering ships that typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, climbed 2% to 4,735 points, a two-week high, for a fourth straight session. The panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 2% to 2,166 points for a third consecutive session. The supramax index edged up 0.1% to 1,643 points.
