Binance Pay users can now make eligible cryptocurrency payments at more than 3,700 merchants across Bhutan through DK Bank’s Domestic QR network. Users scan participating merchants’ existing DK Bank QR codes in the Binance app, enter an amount in Bhutanese ngultrum (BTN), and confirm payment in USDT, while conversion to local currency is handled automatically. Merchants do not need to install separate crypto-payment systems. Binance said additional fees will be waived through December 31, 2026, although exchange rates still apply. Announced with The Crypto Times on August 24, the integration expands a May 2025 initiative involving Binance Pay, Bhutan’s Department of Tourism and DK Bank that initially covered more than 100 tourism-focused merchants. Binance APAC Head SB Seker said connecting crypto payments to established local QR infrastructure supports real-world adoption. Binance reported more than 21 million merchants and over $321 billion in transactions since launching Binance Pay in 2021, while saying local QR integrations processed about $40 million in their first year with monthly volumes rising at double-digit rates; the figures were not independently verified in the announcement. DK Bank Bhutan and Gelephu Mindfulness City Country CEO Ugyen Tenzin said the arrangement adds crypto payments without replacing existing QR infrastructure. The option is not available at every Bhutanese merchant, since payments require an accepted DK Bank Domestic QR code and an eligible transaction.
