Outer Bio has emerged from stealth with Yuna, a platform that keeps donated human skin alive for four weeks—far longer than tissue normally survives outside the body—and uses machine-learning models to study slow processes including collagen breakdown, inflammation, cellular aging, pigmentation and barrier repair. Michael Polansky, Lady Gaga’s fiancé, co-founded the company in 2022 and is its chief executive, while Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, serves on the board. Backers including Wing Venture Capital, Initialized Capital, SV Angel, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Polansky’s Hawktail have committed roughly $23 million. Outer Bio says Yuna has recorded more than 10,000 treatments across 300 donors, with each sample producing more than 30,000 measurements. The company sells platform access to biopharmaceutical teams and consumer brands, while its broader model combines AI predictions with experiments on living tissue in a closed feedback loop. The approach arrives as regulators and companies seek alternatives to animal testing, although richer biological data alone may not resolve the difficulty of developing effective anti-aging products.
