French open-weight AI lab Mistral and HUMAIN, an AI company owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, have agreed to build sovereign AI infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the wider region in a partnership worth hundreds of millions of euros. The companies will jointly develop and localize advanced models that can be owned under open-weight terms, while keeping data and workloads on Saudi-based computing infrastructure rather than relying solely on European or U.S. capacity. Initial deliveries will target cybersecurity and voice applications, as well as regional inference, open models and frontier Arabic-language models. The partners also plan joint marketing for regulated industries across the region. Mistral’s Mistral Compute division is building the company’s end-to-end infrastructure capabilities and will use local HUMAIN compute for workloads. The agreement builds on HUMAIN’s expanding infrastructure plans, including arrangements involving NVIDIA, xAI, AWS, AMD and Cisco. It also extends Mistral’s regional strategy, including its work with G42 and Microsoft, while supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 priorities and HUMAIN’s role as a Public Investment Fund vehicle.
