Ainet Corp attorney Lanny J. Davis said no data was lost during a contract the SEC (U.S. securities regulator) described as a data security contract. He said the SEC inspected the facility before awarding the contract, renewed it annually for six years and was planning to extend it. Davis said the agency sought Justice Department involvement only after its Inspector General described the SEC as "incompetent" in administering the contract, while the dispute was being litigated. He characterized the move as retaliation and weaponization of the Justice Department.
