AiNET Corp. and former Chief Executive Officer Deepak Jain agreed to pay $1.8 million to resolve U.S. allegations under the False Claims Act that they falsely certified their Beltsville, Maryland, data center for a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission contract. AiNET attorney Lanny J. Davis disputed the allegations, saying the SEC inspected the facility, renewed the contract for six years, planned to extend it and experienced no data loss; he alleged the agency later weaponized the Justice Department after an Inspector General report criticized its contract administration. The settlement resolves allegations only and includes no determination of liability.
