South Korea's Hanwha Ocean (042660.KS) has received Approval in Principle (AIP) from Norway's DNV and the U.S. classification society ABS for a low-carbon standard Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) design framework. It also secured an ABS certificate for its Project Sustainability Execution Plan (PSEP), which covers the implementation and management of goals such as carbon reduction and improved energy efficiency. DNV verified the incorporation of reduction technologies for major greenhouse-gas emission sources into the FPSO design, while ABS assessed the sustainability execution framework. Hanwha Ocean plans to turn verified low-carbon technologies into reusable packages that can be selected for individual projects and use PSEP as a standard execution foundation. The move extends the company's regional FPSO standardization strategy, following certified designs for West Africa in 2024 and South America this year, as environmental performance becomes a more important factor in offshore-project awards.
