Airbound, the Bengaluru aerospace company founded in 2023, has raised $37 million in a Series A led by Greenoaks, with participation from DoorDash, Lachy Groom, Lightspeed and Humba Ventures. The financing brings its total capital raised to nearly $50 million and will support engineering, commercial-scale manufacturing and go-to-market efforts. Airbound is developing autonomous transport aircraft that use advances in autonomy, materials science and a physics-first design to carry more payload than aircraft weight, with the aim of making air transport competitive with trucking. The company has completed more than 1,000 autonomous flights with zero mission failures for Narayana Health, transporting diagnostic samples between healthcare facilities and reducing delivery times from hours to minutes. Earlier company disclosures cited more than 13,000 autonomous flights in Bengaluru and Guntur, including the Narayana Health operations. Under a new commercial deployment agreement with the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Airbound plans to build a three-city drone delivery network for retail, e-commerce and healthcare and scale it to 10,000 daily flights. Regulatory approvals, particularly for BVLOS operations, remain important to large-scale deployment. Airbound says the same aircraft platform could eventually move freight and people, including a potential 300-kilometer journey in 20 minutes.
