The Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region caught fire after a drone attack on Tuesday, regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on Telegram. Falling drone debris at the Afipsky railway station killed two people and injured two others. Ukraine has targeted Russian oil refineries and other infrastructure in an effort to undermine Moscow’s war efforts and reduce financial revenue. The mostly export-focused Afipsky plant processed 7.2 million metric tons of crude oil, or 144,000 barrels per day, in 2024, and has been targeted by Ukrainian drones several times in recent months. The incident followed an Aug. 21 Ukrainian drone attack that halted operations at the Perm oil refinery, Russia’s seventh-largest oil processing plant by volume, after fires damaged its technological units.
