Dongwon F&B will raise factory prices for selected products starting September 1, with canned tuna products including Dongwon Tuna increasing by an average of 9% and beverages such as Yangban Omija Tea rising by an average of 9% to 10%. The company cited higher raw-material, production and distribution costs, including high oil prices, a strong dollar and surging packaging-material costs. The move follows Sajo's decision to raise factory prices for major processed foods by up to 20% from August 3, increasing concerns that food-price increases could add to pressure on South Korean consumers. Industry participants expect other companies may follow if raw-material, exchange-rate and logistics costs remain elevated, although larger price increases could weaken demand as consumers become more price-sensitive.
