Overseas revenue accounted for an average 74% of sales at South Korea’s five largest game companies—Nexon, Krafton, Netmarble, NCSoft and Pearl Abyss—in the first half of this year, putting the share above 70% for the first time. Combined overseas revenue rose nearly 60% year on year to 6.06 trillion won ($4.1 billion), equivalent to 80% of the groups’ full-year overseas revenue of 7.96 trillion won in the previous year. The shift reflects global launches, acquisitions and a move beyond mobile MMORPGs toward PC, console, shooters, extraction games and open-world action titles. As domestic growth slows, companies are also relying more on Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show to reach international players, although G-Star’s role as the leading Korean showcase is under pressure.
