Bank of Montreal, operating as BMO Financial Group, said it intends to repurchase and cancel up to 25 million common shares under a normal course issuer bid, subject to approval from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada and the Toronto Stock Exchange. The proposed purchases represent about 3.6% of the company’s public float as of July 31, 2026. If approved, the bid would begin on or around Sept. 8, 2026, and end Sept. 7, 2027, unless terminated earlier. Purchases would be made at market prices through the TSX and potentially other permitted Canadian exchanges, alternative trading systems, automatic purchase plans, block purchases or private agreements. BMO said the program would provide additional flexibility in managing its capital position, while the timing and amount of purchases would depend on market conditions and management discretion.
