Bank of Montreal, operating as BMO Financial Group, reported fiscal third-quarter net income of C$1.75 billion, or C$2.38 a share, down 25% from C$2.33 billion, or C$3.14 a share, a year earlier. Results mainly reflected a C$962 million goodwill charge related to the sale of its Transportation and Vendor Finance businesses, while adjusted net income rose 19%. BMO intends to repurchase and cancel up to 25 million common shares under a normal course issuer bid, representing about 3.6% of its public float as of July 31, 2026. The proposed bid is subject to approval from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada and the Toronto Stock Exchange and could run from around Sept. 8, 2026, through Sept. 7, 2027. BMO shares fell 0.67%.
