United Airlines will add 10 international destinations in 2027 in the largest expansion in its nearly 100-year history, with nonstop flights starting March 27 to Okinawa from San Francisco and running through June 9 to Terceira, Portugal. Other new markets include Toulouse from Washington Dulles and Luxembourg City, Marseille, Ibiza, Valencia, Ljubljana, Olbia and Catania from Newark, cities that—aside from the two Italian points—no other U.S. airline currently serves nonstop. The carrier debuted its “Born to Explore” Airbus A321XLR at Newark; the jet begins domestic flying in September, shifts to international routes in December and will operate five of the new cities. United will also thicken existing international schedules and restart San Francisco–Tel Aviv service, lifting additions since 2021 to 49 destinations. The push coincides with jet fuel near $163 a barrel, up 82% year over year after the Strait of Hormuz disruption, though CEO Scott Kirby expects prices to ease gradually into 2027.
