President Trump said Tuesday that his administration is considering changing Lake Ontario's name to Lake America amid an escalating trade war between the United States and Canada. Trump said the United States does not expect to do much business with Ontario. The proposal follows Canada's decision to impose retaliatory tariffs against new U.S. tariffs of 50 percent starting Sept. 8. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Ottawa would match Washington's tariffs dollar for dollar, while Ontario Premier Doug Ford threatened to cut power exports to the United States. Trump previously signed an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.
