Chainalysis identified the payment infrastructure behind one of the largest known darkweb child sexual abuse material (CSAM) operations, tracing more than $530,000 in cryptocurrency payments through over 5,800 distinct wallet addresses since July 2022. The investigation began with a tip from UK authorities and is among the most significant uses of blockchain forensics, or analysis of blockchain transaction records, against crypto-enabled child exploitation networks. Chainalysis has shared intelligence with global law enforcement agencies and cryptocurrency exchange compliance teams, which use its tools to flag suspicious activity and freeze accounts linked to illicit operations. In April 2025, Europol and German authorities dismantled Kidflix, a platform that had accumulated nearly 1.8 million users; Binance analyzed law-enforcement-provided wallet addresses and identified 120 accounts tied to the platform. Coinbase has separately worked with Chainalysis on compliance and risk-management initiatives involving other illegal activity, including fentanyl trafficking. Earlier Chainalysis data showed that crypto flows to CSAM sites grew substantially in the years leading up to 2023, while some operators have shifted toward privacy coins and mixing services to make transactions harder to trace. The investigation highlights the growing compliance role of blockchain analytics and the regulatory risks for exchanges that fail to monitor illicit activity or respond promptly to law-enforcement requests.
