Belgium’s business confidence indicator (survey-based measure of economic sentiment) fell 1.3 points to -13.2 in August 2026 from -11.9 in July, against market expectations for a rise to -10.2. Manufacturing confidence declined to -17.8 from -15.5, with notable deterioration in textiles, wood processing, paper, and ferrous and non-ferrous basic metals. Confidence in structural building also weakened, while construction installation, building completion, roofing activities, business-related services and trade improved. The trade-sector increase was driven by stronger confidence in motor vehicle sales.
